Benefits of Ayurveda

ayurveda

Ayurveda is an alternative healing practice that originated in India several thousand years ago.  The term Ayurveda combines two Sanskrit words:  “Ayur” which means Life and “Veda” which means Science.  So, literally translated, Ayurveda is the Science of Life.

Ayurveda is an active state of wellness, a state in which one truly lives, not merely exists.  Ayurveda takes into consideration that mind, body and spirit all contribute to the state of health, happiness and therefore contentment.

The principles of Ayurveda are based upon one’s constitutional makeup and the state of imbalance that is presently leading to current situations, like constipation, indigestion, weight gain, dry skin and other unhealthful conditions.  These situations are not normal, no matter what the media would have people believe.

By determining one’s unique constitution, Ayurveda establishes balance by going to the root of the problem.  Treatment is aimed at restoring harmony to the mind-body system.  Just as chronic health issues do not happen overnight, neither does the restoration of homeostasis.  Ayurveda is aimed at resolving the source of the imbalance, not merely alleviating the symptoms with “medicines” which list a myriad of side-effects that can create other health issues.

To begin restoring the unique person that is you, there will be an initial consultation lasting 2 hours; a 1-hour report of findings; and follow-up visits which can take 45 minutes to an hour.  The number of follow-up visits will vary according to specific needs.

“The more we heal ourselves, the more we heal the planet.”  Deepak Chopra
